Go ahead, say it.
Same Old Jets.
Yes, the Jets blew a game like they have done many times in the past. There were the clock management issues, the penalties, and the questionable calls and decisions.
It all added up to another loss that should have been a win. Yet, in the past, there weren’t many of them, just bad losses.
Yet, take heart, Jets’ fans, the sky is not falling. There are the proverbial silver linings in the clouds ahead.
It’s two games and being 1-1 isn’t bad. Take a look around the league at the nine 0-2 teams, and the Jets aren’t one of them.
There was a big dropoff from Game One to Game Two, but the Packers are better than the Titans.
You have plenty of reasons to pin this one of Aaron Glenn. He made his share of mistakes, and he looked like the version of his rookie season last year. Did Glenn fool all of us in the opening win, or is he better?
Offensive coordinator Frank Reich, who was already targeted to take over for Glenn at the midway point of the season, called a horrible game. Reich had to find a more creative way than to run Breece Hall or Braelon Allen up the middle.
The Jets’ defense has looked good, and that’s a huge plus in their favor. Linebacker Dario Davis has provided the necessary leadership they desperately needed.
Heading into Detroit Sunday, the Jets have a great chance to reboot, especially with the offense.
Geno Smith has an opportunity to have a big day on a fast track, and that should be a big day for Garrett Wilson. Reich has to have a better game plan to heavily involve Hall and Allen against a defense that isn’t among the league’s elite.
A win Sunday and then a trip to Chicago likely without Caleb Williams should produce at best a 2-2 record. That’s not outside of the realm of reason.
They then come home with a winnable game against Cleveland.
The sky isn’t falling yet, but the Jets have to play their part.
It doesn’t have to be Same Old Jets.
